“We are changing the paradigm of bread”
Vanessa Kimbell has been making sourdough since she was a young girl. She has been studying the science and nutrition of bread for over 20 years. The Sourdough School is based in rural Northamptonshire and is a world-renowned centre for research and development. Our focus is on the fermentation of bread, its potential to support gut microbial health and the impact on both physical and mental health. We are delighted to now offer places on our sourdough research and development workshops…
What does a guest placement mean?
It is about sharing. Being part of the School is about becoming part of a movement. We believe it is time to change the paradigm of bread and that means challenging the way people think about our most basic of foods. It’s about developing recipes that people can bake and eat together. It is being part of what Vanessa calls ‘beautiful disruption’, encouraging people all around the world to connect to the soil, the farmer and the miller, and to bake bread that nourishes.
Our research and development workshops in 2020 are an opportunity for sourdough enthusiasts to join Vanessa and a small tutorial group who are researching, creating and developing a sourdough bread for 5 days. They’ll have access to all of Vanessa’s years of research and her extensive bread library.
We have allocated a place on day 3-5 of each of our workshops for an invited guest who shares the same vision of changing the world of bread. These places are for food activists, food enthusiasts, food storytellers and bread aficionados. This is free of charge opportunity for people who want to join our bread movement.
This is beyond bread. We know that healthy gut microbiome is integral to our health on every level. We are about bread and guts. So gut health is at the centre of our research and one of Vanessa’s great passions. Vanessa cares deeply about sharing knowledge and believes that “like fresh air and clean water, eating bread that nourishes is a basic human right”.
We feel that openly sharing knowledge about sourdough is the most powerful way that we can disrupt the acceptance of cheap industrial bread, which lacks nourishment.
